Label composition of all the formulations manufactured in India and their market value

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), as a part of its functions, has to advise the government about which drugs and formulations should be covered under the pricing controls.  In order to arrive at the rational parameters which should govern this classification of scheduled and non-scheduled drugs, it is essential to have a reliable database which gives information about various formulations being manufactured by different manufacturers in the country, their label composition particularly with respect to the levels of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) present and their sales volumes during specified period of the year.  There had been a long-felt need to create such a database, which will provide comprehensive information about all the drugs, and formulations being produced in the country.  The NPPA, therefore, sponsored the following project at National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER).

  • ‘To collect and document label composition of various formulations manufactured in India particularly with reference to the number and levels of API’s present in them’.

  • NIPER has now completed this assignment and a finalized database containing information on the above along with a user friendly, versatile software capable of providing information in the form of various reports.
